It’s a good thing we ordered course-by-course because portions are huge. ![]() There must be several hundred items ranging from soups to appetizers to entr�es and everything in between. Several staff members took good care of us. One depicted big bald American eagles, another was done up with pretty, colorful fruits. The ceiling was decorated with bunches of plastic red and green grapes, but the laminated tables were sort of interesting. A steam table contained foods that did not appeal to me. Interior design is not a high point at Hoa Viet. We brought along a bottle of chilled Orvietto, found a parking spot and stepped into the most welcome air conditioning. I called the restaurant and, to my delight, found it to be a BYOB. So on yet another brutally hot evening, Edward and I decided to have dinner at Hoa Viet. I soon discovered Hoa Viet is the oldest Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown. How could I have missed this place? I thought to myself. The menu was posted as well, along with newspaper reviews, one dating back nearly 20 years. Roast ducks hung in the window, while fruit and milkshake specials were advertised on brightly colored paper. While walking down Race Street, I happened upon Hoa Viet, a Vietnamese restaurant. Chinatown has become a major shopping destination, an outdoor mini-mall filled with restaurants and all kinds of stores. The neighborhood is usually bustling, filled with people buying Asian greens, fresh fish, fruit, lucky bamboo plants, jewelry, books or a silk jacket. So if you’re looking for a fast and friendly place to eat with great food and service, Hoa Viet is the place to go.When I finish shopping at the Reading Terminal Market, I sometimes stroll over to Chinatown. Joanne Tran, the manager of Hoa Viet, said it gets good business because it’s right across from the college and right off the freeway. It’s a great place to go for big groups and even on a casual date. The workers and manager provide a comfortable environment with friendly smiles and greetings. Waiters and waitresses immediately refills drinks before customers’ beverages get to the bottom. Hoa Viet provides fast and great service. ![]() Most of the food us under $10, being affordable for anyone on a budget. The proportions were fulfilling and definitely worth the money. They were perfectly prepared and satisfied my craving for Asian food. The menu also offers beverages such as soda, tea, fruit smoothies as well as desserts like tapioca.Ī large bowl of beef ball noodle soup, fried wontons and a plate of Chow Fun gave me a great first experience. The condiments are refilled immediately after customers leave, giving the next customers full bottles. The restaurant has different types of Asian condiments, such as sriracha sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce and peppers, allowing customers to add any ingredients to appeal to their preference. Hoa Viet also offers a variety of rice plates that come with different types of meat, fried noodles such as Chow Mein and Chow Fun, and different types of appetizers like spring rolls, egg rolls and fried wontons. If you’re not looking for pho, don’t worry. There is also vegetarian pho, meeting the preference of customers. Pho is rice-stick noodles with a chicken broth based along with customers’ choice of meat. Hoa Viet specializes in Asian-styled noodle soups called pho and has a menu filled with different varieties. Other than that, Hoa Viet has a comfortable atmosphere. The spaces between tables are a bit close to each other so it’s hard to get out of the seats. Once customers walk in, they are immediately greeted with smiles and cheerfulness and seated in a nice Vietnamese-themed restaurant. The Hoa Viet located at 8251 Bruceville Road, the newest one out of many Hoa Viets in the Sacramento area, had its grand opening on Feb. Hoa Viet recently opened right across the street from the Cosumnes River College campus.
